While more frequent and severe attacks indicate the medication is working, that knowledge makes them no less painful.

While over-the-counter medications like ibuprofen work fine for some, others find they don't provide sufficient relief. Patients given a prescription to buy Febuxostat should have little trouble getting a prescription for a more potent painkiller as well, at least for the first six months.

Lifestyle Changes also Help

Patients who buy Febuxostat are often advised to make lifestyle changes as well. While advice will vary to some extent from patient to patient and country to country, in general suggested changes include:

• Cut back on purine-rich foods, such as fatty meats
• Increase intake of vitamin C
• Maintain a healthy weight
• Avoid unnecessary stress when possible
• Stay hydrated
• Get sufficient rest

Lifestyle changes, if made and maintained, can eventually eliminate the need for medications to manage uric acid levels. Dosage & Administration

Febuxostat comes in tables, which are taken just once per day. Treatment is similar in the majority of patients:

• Start with 40 mg per day, taken once per day.
• Results should be evaluated after two weeks. If needed, dosage may be increased to 80 mg per day, taken once per day.
• Results should again be evaluated after two weeks. At this point, if uric acid levels are still too high, dosage may be increased to 120 mg per day. Alternatively, other medications may be tried instead.
• Treatment typically lasts a minimum of six months and may continue for several years if needed.
• Lifestyle changes are often critical in long-term management of uric acid levels.

Patients taking certain other medications or who have other major medical conditions may be started on lower doses.

Patients taking Febuxostat along with cancer treatments may have significantly different dosage and administration guidelines than above; doctor instructions should always be followed.

Adverse Effects

Side effects from Febuxostat are typically mild and often stop occurring after the first few weeks of treatment. Most common are:

• Nausea
• Mild dizziness
• Mild skin rash
• Diarrhea
• Headache

The above are not cause for concern unless they become severe enough to be disruptive, in which case a doctor should be consulted.

Patients with other medical conditions are at greater risk of experiencing more serious side effects. Discuss risks and warning signs with a doctor before buying Febuxostat if there is a history of:
